- Today's program:
- FIELD TRIP 3: Sakai Eco-Town
- - Kinki Environmental Industry Co., LTD.
- - Kansai Saisigen Network
- - Osaka Green Eco-Plaza
- SESSION 3: Lectures
- 3-1. "Global environment viewed from the sky" (by Tateo YOSHIDA, JAL)
- 3-2. "The Historical Origin and Structure of Forest Devastation in Japan" (by Suehisa OOKURA, MGU)
- NIGHT SESSION
- National report presentations of the U.S., EU and Nepal.
- Since students were always so eager to ask questions, we ran out of time at every field trip location and after every lecture or presentation. The whole day seemed to be packed without any spare time. We finished the last presentation at 9:50pm, but even after that, students were eager to have a discussion in their group before they fill their personal reflection sheets. I am really, really happy to see such enthusiasm among them. (K. Iwao)

I had some conflicts today.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I was honestly sorry for Eco town because it was actually smelled for me. I felt so. However, it is required in order to recycle wastes and solve the environmental problem. That is one of my conflicts. I am sorry for the employees, but I want to appreciate for them because Eco town is necessary to deal with the problem, and the people are working even if it is hard condition in order to solve the problem. So, things I have to do are that I think about consuming, create wastes and finally consider there are some people who are deal with it.
The conflict is about vegetables which are grown if there is no soil.
I thought it was awesome because the vegetables are really good for health and developed things. On the other hands, I think Co2 will be emitted in the process of growing the vegetables because illumination is required. It is my image that the heat generated by the machine to create charcoal may be used for illumination. The cooperation is good for solving the issue.
I want to learn lots of things more and more and think about it.
in eco town, actually we don`t have enough time to look around. so i`m a little depressed.
ReplyDeletebecause i was hoping that we will be able to look around.
and come back to school, we had 2 lecture. i got a lot of information about environment, such as environment history about Japan...
i really enjoyed about that. i will study about that more.
So excited to see the eco-town, but i was devastated. I expected to see this site as a tourist attraction, but it was a place for factories. I asked myself, why did Japan create a man made island for just recycling factories? Japan is already too developed but still, they make islands for more developments. WHy not create them for leisure parks for the people? So todayd activity was n0t a good one for me...sorry...
ReplyDeleteForeign Lands
ReplyDeleteUp into the cherry tree
Who should climb but little me?
I held the trunk with both my hands
And looked abroad on foreign lands
I saw the next-door garden lie,
Adored with flowers before my eye,
And many secret places more
That I have never seen before.
I saw a dimpling river pass
And be the sky's blue looking-glass;
The dusty roads go up and down
With people tramping in to town.
If I could find a higher tree
Farther and farther I should see,
To where the grown-up river slips
Into a sea among the ships,
To where the roads on either hand
Lead onward into fairy land,
Where all the childen dine at five,
And where all the playthings come alive.
Robert Louis Stevenson
yesterday's little trouble in my stomach at late night and didnt sleep properly, I have a tough time today mainly the first half when we are in Sakai city Eco town. It seems very interesting but I couldnt concentrate much. But after finishing my lunch in 'subway' with friends get some real break and the rest of the day was awsome. Having a good time in osaka WTC and with its eco-friendly products, i feel that the field trip is worked for me at the end. But get the real surprise after listening the two lectures of two of our guest about japan airlines and environment issues and the next one the history of de-forestation in japan open my eyes. I was blown.....
ReplyDeleteThe last session have some interesting interaction which was very fruitful at the end..
what i can say that, day bye day, the camp is finding the way to success..
I am looking forward more....
Thanks everybody...
I`m really enjoying my stay here in Japan. I`m learning, eating delicious/nutritious foods, sleeping on a soft bed and making friends with other students! :))
ReplyDeleteit was the happy day for me. when i talked with other students especially japanese, they were all forcusing only on the language "english" not the theme of the works. but today, i felt that some students were trying to think about the theme not the language. it was like we were really in the same place.
ReplyDeleteI really interested in 1st lecture which as you know "Global environment viewed from the sky". it made my wrong information correct. it was pretty much good for me.
